The Sky Blues handed defender Dom Hyam a new deal yesterday afternoon and boss Mark Robins admitted it was fully deserved.

Dom has made 82 appearances for the club, scoring three goals, as well as winning Sky Blues Player of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season last year.

Hyam turns 24 today, and Robins said he was happy to see him put-pen-to-paper and is looking forward to watching him fulfil his potential.

He said: “I think he’s deserving of that.

“Dominic had to be patient to start with to earn his place and then forced his way in and was part of the promotion win at Wembley.

“He deserves that without a shadow of a doubt and there’s still improvement in him, 24 years of age he’s still a young man and for a centre half he’s still got some work to do to fulfil his potential but he’s working gradually towards that.

“He knows where he is and he knows there’s good centre halves at the club and that should drive them on.

“It shouldn’t make people down tools and Dominic isn’t that and he’ll force his way back into the reckoning.”

Hyam and his team mates now turn their attention to this weekend’s clash with Lincoln City, as Michael Appleton’s side travel to St Andrew’s.

Mark Robins side get the opportunity to get back to winning ways and bounce back from last weeks defeat to Shrewsbury Town and told how everyone is looking forward to the clash.

“We’ll do what we need to do to prepare for tomorrow but everyone’s looking forward to the game, it’s a good game, they’re a decent side with good players and we’re looking to get back to the heights.

“Last week, first half was decent but second half wasn’t so good, so back to performance and what we can do and the lads are looking forward to it, we can see this in training this week, the lads are ready to play.”
