INTERVIEW: Mark Robins Looks Ahead To Bristol Rovers Clash

City face the Gas this weekend...

16 August 2019

The Sky Blues boss Mark Robins is looking to improve on the start his side have made this weekend against Bristol Rovers.

City have played three games in all competitions this season, winning two and drawing one, with four points on the table in League One currently.

Both sides picked up a win midweek in the Carabao Cup First Round and Robins is expecting confidence to be high in both camps.

He said: “They’re a good side and they’re a team with a lot of experience and players we know.

“We’re looking forward to the game and I think it will be a really good one for us, but it’s about us and about improving on what we’ve done.

“They’ve had a great result midweek and as have we and confidence in both teams should be high and for us it’s about trying to improve on the start we’ve made.”

The Manager gave an update on the work going into the Sky Blues set-piece work for the new season.

Robins spoke to the local press about the defensive and offensive work going into City’s work set-pieces.

He said: “Set-pieces are important and last season wasn’t good enough and there’s still things they need to do better because we’re nowhere near the finished article when it comes to defending those.

“We’re going to concede goals from set-pieces from time to time and that’s not me saying we’re expecting to concede because we’re not, but the chances are if you give stupid free kicks and corners away the chances are people will have more opportunities to put the ball in your box.

“We’re going to have to deal with it and the better we are with dealing with that and not just the first phase, the second phase, but then clearing our lines and making sure we’re defending from a position where we understand what’s happening.

“It’s about teaching players because they go into this mode of switching off and it’s a set play I have to deal with the first header and if you don’t deal with the first header and the ball comes back in and they’ve all come out, they’re at the far post ready to head the ball in the net and you have to deal with that and deal with the ball and try and stop crosses coming and defend better.

“Out of possession we have to do better and that’s what were trying to work towards and in possession we’ve scored some goals from set plays which is really pleasing.

“I think the delivery in the box is key and also the movement in the box is important and tomorrow we will have a threat there because they’re a big side and depending on what side they put out they’ve got some good players in their team.”
