Jordan Shipley was “buzzing” after scoring in the Sky Blues win against Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
The midfielder opened his account for the season with a low drive into the bottom left corner and believes it is important that City continue to build momentum.
Shipley said: “I’m buzzing that we won, and all the lads are. It’s important to keep the run going now and it’s about momentum keeping those clean sheets and scoring goals.
“Scoring just before half-time, I didn’t really think much of it. It was a bit of a shank really! Luckily, it went in and it’s about scoring the goal really.
“A goal is a goal. I think if any of the lads did exactly the same thing, they wouldn’t mind either and neither would I to be quite honest. I’m happy with it.”
Saturday’s match-winner was full of praise for fellow goalsocrer Gervane Kastaneer as well as midfield partners Liam Kelly and Zain Westbrooke.
“We know what Gervane’s got, we know what he’s capable of. He’s a big lad, he’s powerful as well and he proved that he can get a goal or two as well.
“Kellz is an absolute rock. You’ve got to have that powerhouse, brick wall, he’s a holding midfielder and it allows me and Zain to create chances or have a pop ourselves. It’s good to have him.
“We all know what Zain’s capable of as well. He’s a great passer of the ball, great finisher, but he also runs as well.
“He runs probably the most out of everyone, every game, so I’m really happy for him.”
The 21-year-old is pleased to have started all four of the Sky Blues matches this season and wants to keep pushing on in the right direction.
“Like I said at the end of last season, I think it’s about consistency and to keep pushing on and keep working.
“Obviously, my legs are going to get stronger and I’m just going to keep pushing on in the right direction, more goals, to help the team and we want to push forward now.”
He also thinks the squad is gelling nicely and is enjoying playing in his preferred central midfield position.
“We’ve all just worked really hard, everyone sets the tempo. I think it’s proving now how we’ve had a good pre-season and we’ve just come straight into the season and kicked on. It’s only up from here.
“The lads at the back know what to do, so does the whole team. We’re all still getting used to each other, picking out everyone’s best bits.
“There’s things that we can work on. All the lads have gelled together really well and that shows in the performances.
“I’m enjoying it, playing in my favoured position. I can play out on the left as well but I prefer to play in the centre of midfield and I’m enjoying it and relishing the chance. I can’t wait for the next game.”
Shipley also praised the supporters for another fantastic turnout and believes that they can push on together.
“The fans came out in their numbers again today. They have for the past two home games and the away game at Bolton as well. They’ve been fantastic so far and we just have to keep pushing on together.”
