INTERVIEW: Jordan Shipley Delighted After Sunderland Win

The midfielder scored in the 5-4 win...

Jordan Shipley was overjoyed that the Sky Blues managed to take all three points versus Sunderland in a thriller at the Stadium of Light.

The Sky Bet League One affair saw nine goals, five for the Sky Blues and four for the Black Cats, fly into either net at the Stadium of Light.

Shipley, 21, scored City’s fourth and spoke to the local media post-victory.

He said: “We were always in the game, and we always thought we’d score goals throughout.

“Mine was a good strike and I know that I can do that, but sometimes I lash at it or hit it over.

“Today it went straight in the corner and as soon as I hit it I knew it was in.”

No team in the league had beaten Sunderland at home in the league, so this victory was no mean feat for the Sky Blues.

Shipley furthered: “The gaffer told us at the start of today that no one had gone up to Sunderland and beaten them.

“So he told us to go out there and show what you’ve got.

“So we did and got off to a flying start.

“3-1 up we thought that was good. 3-3 not so much. But we always knew we could win.”

At 3-1 up City felt the pressure from the Black Cats and Shipley admitted that they made it difficult for themselves.

“We felt the pressure coming when we should’ve been pressing, attacking and making it difficult for them.

“We didn’t do this and they then got on top.

“Second half we just plugged away continuously and were clinical when we got our chances.

“It was a nine goal thriller, taking all three points and coming out on top was the main thing for us."
