Jason Farndon’s Sky Blues Under-23s were pegged back late on against Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.
City took the lead through Allassani and after an Ogogo own goal drew the Owls level, Bakayoko the restored the lead, before Wednesday equalised late on.
It was a bright start for Farndon’s side, with a host of chances falling early on.
Conor Chaplin tested the ‘keeper early on with a free-kick and then with a snapshot from just outside of the box a few moments later.
The striker then almost put City 1-0 up, but after a leap to win a header, he watched on as his effort came back off of the crossbar.
However, the Sky Blues did find the lead after ten minutes and it was Reise Allassani who continued his goal scoring form.
The winger created space around 20 yards out and then drilled a low shot into the bottom corner to leave the ‘keeper helpless and make it 1-0.
After calm following the opening goal, City looked to double their lead and they almost did through Chaplin.
The striker won back possession midway through the Wednesday half and then ran at the back four, creating space and firing a shot towards the bottom corner, forcing the ‘keeper into a save.
Dexter Walters, who joined City in the summer, was next to have a go at goal. The winger picked the ball up out wide and beat his man and cut back inside and got a shot away, but the ‘keeper saved.
However, after dominating the opening half hour, Sheffield Wednesday were level.
A corner from the right wasn’t cleared and came off the body of Abu Ogogo, who didn’t know to much about it, and rolled into the back of the net to make it 1-1.
The two battled for possession up until half-time, with the only other chance for the visitors coming from their number nine, who curled an effort wide of the post.
However, a minute later and Chaplin saw an effort come back off of the crossbar.
The striker had a shot deflected behind and then from the set-piece and the ball is headed into the air and falls on the volley to Chaplin and his shot hits the bar.
City did however retake the lead seconds before half-time.
A superb ball into the box from Junior Brown was met by the head of the on running Amadou Bakayoko, who buried it past the ‘keeper, leaving him no chance and making it 2-1 Just before the break.
After the interval, City looked to add a third. Allassani plays a one two with Junior Brown and then tries to curl a shot into the far right corner, but his shot is deflected behind for a corner.
Wednesday looked to get an equaliser and it was Connor Kirby who got a shot away inside the box, but Liam O’Brien was equal to it.
Moments later there was a lengthy stoppage in play as a Wednesday defender received treatment and was later stretchered off.
78 minutes on the clock and Allassani almost had a second after a loose ball inside the box fell to the winger, but his shot went over the bar.
A few minutes later and Dan Wallis was called into action again, as he saved well from a Bakayoko header.
The striker was involved again a few moments later, as he turned his man on the half way line and ran at the defence, eventually playing it to Chaplin, who’s shot was held well by the ‘keeper.
With three minutes remaining of the 90, Walters won the ball deep down the right and played a floating ball into the box, which was headed over by Chaplin.
However, after eleven minutes were added on, Sheff Wed got their equaliser in the 99th minute, as Fraser Preston levelled in what would be the last piece of action.
