Tom Bayliss spoke of his delight at committing his future to the Sky Blues earlier today, as he feels this is the place for him.
The midfielder signed a new four-year deal, following his breakthrough season last year with City, when he became a first team regular.
Following the signing of his contract until June 2022, Tom wanted to show his appreciation for everyone that has helped him on his journey so far.
He said: “It’s been a long time coming.
“I can’t thank the manager, my family and everyone who has helped me along the way for all their support, they’ve been brilliant.
“I just feel like this is the place where I can really develop and kick on in my career and hopefully help the team get out of this league.
“It’s been brilliant for me and my development here and for the players and the Gaffer to put this much faith in me, I feel like I’m an important part here and I’ve really enjoyed my time in the first team and I don’t feel like it’s my time to go anywhere.”
This time last year, Tom had yet to make a single appearance for the Sky Blues, after his step-up from under-18s to the under-23s side.
However, fast forward just ten months later and the midfielder has made 39 appearances and has scored six goals.
The 19 year-old admitted him and his Dad laugh about it now, at how far he has come in such a short space of time and how the support from the fans has really helped him kick-on.
“It’s mad, I always laugh with my Dad about where I am now, it’s brilliant and to be rewarded with a new contract is brilliant for me.
“I want to stay in the team and hopefully finish as high as we possibly can in the table and if we can get up and around the top half, you never know what could happen, so let’s hopefully push as high as we can.
“The fans have been brilliant for me ever since I made my debut, they’ve been behind me all the way and they’ve been brilliant like I say, so I can’t say thank you enough.”
