COMMUNITY: Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund receives generous donation in memory of Sky Blues fan

4 October 2018

The Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund has received a generous donation in memory of a lifelong Coventry City fan to support more local organisations to ‘Make A Difference’ across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Jimmy Hill played a huge role during his time with Coventry City, a period which saw him take the positions of Manager, Managing Director and Chairman of the club driving the ‘Sky Blue Revolution’ in the 1960s and 1970s.

Jimmy Hill’s success had a massive impact on the city of Coventry and the Legacy Fund has provided a fitting tribute in his memory, supporting a number of causes that were close to his heart.

Life-long, passionate and enthusiastic supporter David John Parry was born in 1930, supporting the club all of his life until he sadly passed away in July.

David displayed all the values that Sky Blues in the Community want to promote and his willingness to help and support his local community made him a valuable fan, friend and personality in Coventry and Warwickshire.

At David’s funeral, rather than receiving flowers and gifts, the family asked for donations to be made to the Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund.

Ettie Parry, David’s Wife said: “These donations are from family & friends. David was a lifelong supporter of his beloved Sky Blues, following them home and away from the age of 8. His hero was Jimmy Hill. His ‘Sky Blue cap’ read ‘Sky Blue till I Die’ & that was very true. David loved children & would be exceptionally pleased if this money goes to help them.”

Michael Parry, David’s Grandson, said: “Grandad was always about the local community and giving youngsters a chance (he ran his own young players team for years).  His idol was Jimmy Hill and given his passion for City it just seemed the most obvious and perfect fit for any donations in his name should go to the Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund to help disadvantaged youngsters. Hopefully this will encourage others to do the same. Good luck Sky Blues.”

Ettie has also been a Sky Blue supporter since the age of 8 and would like to wish Mark Robins and the team all the best for the future. Ettie and her family were guests of Sky Blues in the Community at our home game against Portsmouth.
