Introduction
Coventry University has been voted ‘Modern University of the Year’ three times running by The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide. Ranked in the UK’s top 15 (Guardian University Guide), we have a global reputation for high quality teaching and research with impact. Almost two-thirds (61%) of our research was judged ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.
The Project
Developing and monitoring performance characteristics of players is imperative to the successful development of elite players. However, the efficacy and effectiveness of a number of commonly utilised development and monitoring methods are poorly supported.
Therefore, the aim of this body of work is to establish the efficacy and effectiveness of a selected training intervention with academy footballers. Alternative proposals relating to monitoring performance characteristics will also be considered.
This position will be embedded within Coventry City Football Club academy whereby you will be responsible for assisting with sports science and strength and conditioning services.
Furthermore, research within the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences (CSELS) reflects a broad strength of biological and exercise associated sciences to understand life from the level of molecules through to the whole body.
The Centre has considerable expertise, ranging from expertise in cell biology, genomic and molecular biology, biochemistry, nutrition and food science, safety pharmacology, physiology, physical activity and sport performance.
Benefits
The successful candidate will receive comprehensive research training including technical, personal and professional skills.
All researchers at Coventry University (from PhD to Professor) are part of the Doctoral College and Centre for Research Capability and Development, which provides support with high-quality training and career development activities.
