REPORT: QPR 1-1 Sky Blues

Shipley's equaliser earns City a point...

5 November 2018

The Sky Blues earned a share of spoils at Harlington Training Ground against QPR Under 23s in Professional Development League action.

The hosts took the lead in the first half through Armide Oteh, after his effort from outside the box beat Liam O'Brien.

However, City battled for an equaliser in the second half and found it through Jordan Shipley, after he was on the end of a good through ball from Jonny Ngandu.

The first shot for the Sky Blues cam after just six minutes, when Amadou Bakayoko beat the offside trap and from a tight angle, but Ingram denied the striker.

A few minutes later and a Jordan Cousins ball over the top was met by Oteh, but his shot was well blocked by Dom Hyam.

Liam O’Brien was called into action moment slater, as he had to be on alert to keep out Ilias Chair’s shot from 20 yards-out from creeping into the top corner.

Bright Osayi-Samuel almost gave Rangers the lead when his shot glanced past the post, with just over ten minutes remaining of the half.

Just a minute later and there was an important clearance off the line from Morgan Williams, who denied Ilais Chair.

Paul Hall’s side took the lead in the 38th minute and it was Armide Oteh who fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The Sky Blues looked for an immediate reply a minute later, as Jordan Shipley drove forward and tried his luck from distance, but Ingram saved.

Jodi Jones was next up, as he shifted the ball onto his left foot and forced Ingram into a save with a shot from around 25 yards out.

After the break and it was the hosts who had the better of the opening minutes, firstly Paul Smyth ran through on goal, but he was denied by the post.

Just after and it was Smyth again, this time being denied by a fine Liam O’Brien save to his left hand side.

The Sky Blues looked to create an opening and they almost did down the right, when a bright run from Jodi Jones, ended with Grimmer teeing up Ngandu, but his shot was deflected behind.

City won another corner a few moments later and the ball was cleared only as far as Billy Stedman, but his shot from range went wide.

However, the equaliser did come in the 74th minute and it was a ball over the top of the QPR defence from Jonny Ngandu and he picked out Jordan Shipley, who lifted it over the head of Ingram to make it 1-1.

Both sides battled out the remaining few minutes, with chances few and far between. The hosts saw a Ilais Chair shot deflect wide in the 90th minute, but never troubled the Sky Blues from then on.
