COMMUNITY: Open Trials for the SBITC Player Development Centres for 2018/19 Season

3 May 2018

Open Trials are taking place for the Sky Blues in the Community Player Development Centres ahead of the 2018/19 Season.

The Sky Blues Player Development Centres (PDCs) offer advanced football coaching with a technical and tactical focus for children aged 5-16 of all footballing abilities and experiences.

The overriding mission statement for SBitC Player Development Centres is: ‘To provide high quality coaching and a positive coaching environment to support players in reaching their potential’.

A player pathway is in place where players can move up or down – making sure players are training and playing in a group which is both challenging but also gives them the opportunity to experience success.

PDC training adopts the England DNA Training Principles and player development is assessed by coaches on an on-going basis. A holistic approach is taken by coaches using the The FA ‘Four Corner Model’ for Player Development. The model focuses on key characteristics that are vital in developing any young footballer or sports person.

The development pathway for each individual is unique and diverse, and the needs of each player will ebb and flow in all of the four corners. For some players the need for added support will be minimal, whilst others may require more applied and specific support.

We don’t promise that PDC players will become professional footballers but we do guarantee a high quality coaching environment that supports young players to reach their own potential. Over 500 players are currently involved in the PDCs and since it was set up in 2010, over 400 players have had trials with professional football club academies. In addition to this, 97 players have signed professional contracts with academies.

Sky Blues in the Community (SBitC) is a registered charity and the official community arm to Coventry City Football Club. As a registered charity, SBitC have to ensure all costs involved in running the Player Development Centres are covered so there is a charge involved for the training and trials.

Open Trial Information & Dates:

The open trials are run over a 5 week period (starting the week commencing 4th June 2018) and cost £30.00 for the full 5 weeks. In the first week an initital assessment takes place with all new players.

Following the initital assessment, players are allocated groups to train with exisiting players for the following 4 weeks (this period may also include participation in games).

By seeing players over a period of time it provides the best opportunity to identify which level on the Sky Blues player pathway best suits the individual players.
