The Sky Blues earn a draw at Rodney Parade...

30 March 2018

Coventry City remain sixth in SkyBet League Two after Max Biamou's late strike salvaged a point at Rodney Parade.

The home side took the lead late on in the first half through Mickey Demetriou before the Frenchman's 81st minute rocket levelled the game during what was a tough afternoon in South Wales.

The result means that Mark Robins' side have extended their unbeaten run to seven matches.

The Sky Blues came close to opening the scoring after just six minutes. A delicate flick from Marc McNulty send Jonson Clarke-Harris racing towards the byline his cross found Jordan Shipley in the six-yard box - but his header rippled the side netting and not the back of the net.

Demetriou came close from range for the home side who appeared to be doing all they could to land the ball ontop of the City defence as often as possible and hope that a lapse provided them with a breakthrough.

McNulty took his tally for the season into the twenties with his hat-trick against Grimsby at the Ricoh on Saturday and almost crept even closer to the top of the SkyBet League Two scoring charts when Shipley found him in the area but the former Portsmouth striker blazed his shot high over the crossbar.

Regardless, it was Newport who took the lead just before the break. Some good play down the left saw the ball fall nicely for Demetriou in the area to calmly put the home side ahead.

Newport started the second-half the stronger, and forced a world-class save from Lee Burge before Padraig Amond saw his goal-bound shot hooked off the line in spectacular fashion by Dom Hyam.

Despite the pressure, the Sky Blues levelled with ten minutes to go. Kyel Reid burst away from the Exiles defence before floating his cross over the Max Biamou, on for Peter Vincenti moments earlier, blasted the ball under Joe Day and into the back of the net. Robins' side had salvaged a late point.
