Coventry City will be discontinuing the Away Season Ticket holder scheme from the 2018/19 season onwards.
Due to the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) which came into force at the end of May, the club is no longer able to offer this service.
Previously the club stored the card details for supporters enrolled in the scheme, processing payment manually for each away match. Following the implementation of GDPR, payment details cannot be stored.
Due to each club visited having different prices and pricing categories, it is not possible to pay in advance for fixtures.
Dave Boddy, Coventry City Chief Executive, said: “Unfortunately due to the new GDPR regulations which have come in, the Away Season Ticket holders scheme could not be run in the same manner as it was previously.
“Rightly, security of data and of payment details comes into this regulation and it is no longer possible for us to store the payment information of a fan.
“Having investigated this matter further with the Ticket Office and Ticketmaster, as well as looking at other clubs, we have concluded that we are not able to run the scheme while complying with the GDPR regulations.
“Fans who were previosuly part of the scheme will still receive priority when purchasing their away tickets in line with other Season Ticket holders."
