Coventry City ran out 3-1 winners over Everton Under 23s in a pre-season friendly at La Manga on the tour to Spain.

Combatting the midday heat in Alicante, the Sky Blues moved the ball well and were deserved winners against a lively Everton side.

Mark Robins selected Junior Brown and Abu Ogogo for their first starts of pre-season, while in an alomst completely changed second half side Tony Andreu made his comeback from injury.

City started the game on the front foot, with Jordan Ponticelli hitting the post from edge of the box after being released by Zain Westbrooke with only three minutes played.

It would not take the Sky Blues long to find the net. After forcing the corner, Zain Wesbrooke whipped the ball in and it was met by a powerful header from first-half Captain Tom Davies.

Just three minutes after, another header doubled the lead. Good work from Jak Hickman on the right released Jordan Ponticelli whose deep cross was headed home by Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Mark Robins' side continued to dominate proceedings but with no clear cut opportunities to extend their advantage, went into the break two goals to the good.

New signing Brandon Mason started the second period along with Tony Andreu, marking his comeback from injury.

Everton pulled a goal back five minutes in as they started the second-half in a more positive fashion, with the new look Sky Blues line up still settling.

Andreu was looking lively in a role behind striker Max Biamou, and his smart through ball released Westbrooke. He pulled the ball back for the advancing Shipley, who forced a smart save from the Everton stopper.

Midway through the second half, Andreu extended the lead and finished the scoring. With a free-kick around 25 years out, he stepped up to the ball and hit a low free-kick which hit the post and went in.

The remainder of the match was played out largely in the midfield, where the Sky Blues continued to dominate possession and territory. The referee blew his whistle to mark the end of City's first win of pre-season and give around 100 assembled Sky Blues fans the chance to meet the squad.
