COMMUNITY: SBitC and Coventry College launch partnership to deliver Basketball and Football Education Programmes

2 July 2018

The 2018-19 Academic Year sees Sky Blues in the Community extend their partnership with Coventry College to delivery Basketball and Football Education Programmes for 16-19 year olds in Coventry.

Basketball Education Programme

The Sky Blues are inviting local young people to attend a Basketball Taster Day on Wednesday 4th July, 4:00-6:00pm at the Moat House Neighbourhood & Leisure Centre.

Parents and students are welcome to attend to find out more about the Basketball Education Programme and the courses avaible to students at Coventry College. Coventry College offers a range of courses and once enrolled, students will be encouraged to develop as Basketball Players and Athletes alongside their studies.

Every week, students will have the opportunity to train with Sky Blues in the Community’s Basketball England Qualified Coaches, play competitive Basketball in College Leagues and also have use of the excellent strength and conditioning facilities at Coventry College.

Players will be welcomed into a team that places a high emphasis on developing players both on and off the court. Although playing Basketball at a high-level is important, the academic element of the programme will be the main focus of your time at Coventry College with an excellent support network from Sky Blues Coaches, Coventry College Tutors and fellow students.

Football Education Programme

In a similar set-up, there is also a Football Education Programme on offer. This programme gives students the chance to represent Coventry City Football Club against other EFL Football Club Education Programmes in the EFL Education and Community Football Alliance. In the same way at the Basketball, students will play and train with Sky Blues Coaches alongside studying full-time.

In addition to this, a new three-way partnership with Bedworth United, Coventry College and Sky Blues in the Community will also allow a pathway into non-league football with Bedworth United (U18s, U21s and First Team).
