COMMUNITY: Spon Gate to represent Sky Blues in the EFL Kids Cup!

24 January 2018

Spon Gate Primary School will represent the Sky Blues in the EFL Kids Cup!

After hosting the Local Competition stage of the EFL Kids Cup, which saw a record number of Primary Schools from Coventry and Warwickshire compete, Spon Gate Primary School will embark on the ‘Road to Wembley’.  They will represent Coventry City Football Club in the next stage of the National Competition in Swindon this March.

On Saturday 30th January 2018, the three finalists from the Local Competition Tournaments (Spon Gate, Parkgate and Whitmore Park Primary School) attended the CCFC Training Ground to compete to progress to the next round of the EFL Kids Cup.

Spon Gate emerged as the overall Local Competition Winners, with Whitmore Park in second place and Parkgate in third place.

Whitmore Park PE Teacher, Tim James, said: “The tournament was fantastically run, all the boys absolutely loved it! It was a great learning experience for all involved and will stand all the lads in good stead for their development”.

Spon Gate Primary School will now go on to represent Coventry City Football Club at the Regional Finals in Swindon during March. This next stage of the competition sees them compete against 13 other teams representing EFL League 2 Clubs including Luton, Exeter and Cambridge.

The winner of the Regional Finals will go on to represent their EFL Football Club at Wembley Stadium during the Sky Bet EFL Play-Off weekend in May. We wish Spon Gate the best of luck at the Regionals!
