COMMUNITY: SBitC celebrate success of In It Together project

3 January 2018

Sky Blues in the Community have been celebrating the ‘In It together’ project with a Schools Celebration Event

In It Together is a Sport England funded programme, supported by the Public Health team in Coventry. Aimed at providing opportunities for Women and Girls to participate in Sport and Physical Activity. SBitC work across the community in the day time and evenings, and also run a 10 week programme for teenage girls in secondary schools, as well as promote and deliver community events!

The day was built around the girls experiencing new activities and trying out new things, the 5 activities the girls took part in included: DD Mix, Bollywood Dancing, Martial Arts, Yoga and Wheel Chair Basketball! Lunch time saw the girls get a chance to try out our fun and innovative smoothie bike, creating healthy smoothies as part of their lunch!

The event was supported by local partners on the day, including CSW Sport’s Tracey Murphy, who fully embraced the day, and even had a go on the Smoothie Bike! Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, was also in attendance. Cllr Caan did a fantastic closing to the event and was happy to introduce inspirational speaker, Natasha Mina.

Natasha is a ‘This Girl Can Champion’, and Kick Boxer who is enthused by female participation in sport. Her inspirational speech was greatly received by all at the event and it was fantastic to see Natasha’s enthusiasm for our event.

‘’I always feel so elated and honoured to demonstrate kickboxing in front of so many young girls. To pierce their minds and invite them to reconsider their potential is something I am so passionate about, thanks to Sky Blues in the Community for having me at their first schools event’’
