REPORT: Coventry City 0-2 Accrington Stanley - Jordan Clark sends Accrington home with all three points

The Sky Blues beaten by Stanley in packed Ricoh...

10 February 2018

The Sky Blues have been beaten 2-0 by Accrington thanks to a brace from Stanley winger Jordan Clark.

The visitors took the lead early on through the former Shrewsbury man, before a second-half counter attack saw him double his and his side's tally to put the game beyond the Sky Blues.

Coventry remain ninth in SkyBet League Two, two points behind the play-off places.

The 28,000 City fans inside the Ricoh saw their side fall behind after just four minutes. Accrington did well down the left through Callum Johnson who picked out Clark in space to fire past Liam O'Brien to give his side the lead.

Mark Robins' side soon helped the supporters back into the game. The vocal voice of Michael Doyle was missing from the midfield but Tom Bayliss returned to his more natural central position with Jordan Maguire-Drew filling in on the right, and the Brighton loanee tested Accy 'keeper Aaron Chapman from a set piece mid-way through the first period for City's first effort on target.

The Sky Blues were on top in a game of few chances, but it was the visitors who extended their lead on the hour mark. Kayden Jackson charged at the City defence and slipped in Clark who slotted the ball under O'Brien and into the far corner. Accy had doubled their lead.

The goal saw the introduction of Kyel Reid and Jonson Clarke-Harris, as Accrington almost made it three. Clark's corner found the head of Burnley loanee Jimmy Dunne to head towards goal, forcing a good save from O'Brien.

Reid was threatening down the left-wing and played a brilliant ball over the top for Peter Vincenti to volley, but the former Rochdale man blazed over the bar. It would be the last chance of the afternoon.
