REPORT: Sky Blues Under 23s 2-0 QPR Under 23s

Jason Farndon's side played their last league game of the season...

26 April 2018

The Sky Blues signed off their league campaign with a 2-0 win at the Ricoh Arena, thanks to goals from a trialist and Bilal Sayoud.

It was a good start for the Sky Blues, who were 1-0 in front after less than ten minutes at the Ricoh Arena.

It was Academy players, Josh Eccles who tried his luck from range, but Brzozowski was able to make the save, however he only parried it as far as the City trialist who made no mistake and made it 1-0.

Jason Farndon's side looked to extend that lead almost immediately and they went close through Kyle Finn, who was teed up from a City corner, but his effort was saved.

It was the midfilder who went closest again a few minutes later, again from range, but this time on the half-volley, which went wide.

The Sky Blues trialist who scored the first goal almost had his second in the game after he was on the end of a Callum Maycock cross, but he couldn't direct his header on target.

Coventry's domination in the half continued and they it the wood work from a free-kick. Chris Camwell stood over the ball from around 25 yards out, but his effort was tipped onto the post from Brzozowski.

After the half-time break, Farndon made a substitution, as Jordan Maguire-Drew made way for Bilal Sayoud and he made an immediate impact.

Devon Kelly-Evans found space down the right and cut the ball back across the box for Sayoud and he fired it past the QPR 'keeper to double the Sky Blues advantage.

The second seemed to spur on the visitors and they had back to back chances to try and get a goal back in the game.

First was Owens who connected with a volley inside the City box, but he fired over the bar.

Next up was substitute Akinola, who found space inside the box and looked to beat Addai at his near post, but the 'keeper got down well to make the save.

It was City who had the next opportunity and it was Sayoud looking for his second and this time he took a touch and set himself up for a volley, but he dragged his effort wide.

Kyle Finn was still in the search for a goal and he almost had it when he cut inside onto his left foot, however he was inches away as he hit the side netting.
