Coventry City Under 23s extended their unbeaten start to the season to four games following an all-action 4-4 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The home side started strongly and Sky Blues keeper Corey Addai, with Forest striker Gomis forcing him into action three times in the first twenty minutes.
City settled into the contest and took the lead through Devon Kelly-Evans after 31 minutes, with the attacking midfielder low strike inside the box making it 1-0.
It was three minute double salvo for the Sky Blues, when Jordan Ponticelli made it 2-0 – his fourth goal of the campaign so far. A high ball was knocked down by Kwame Thomas for his strike partner, who fired the ball into the far corner.
Forest pulled one back before the break when the lively Virgil Gomis’ shot took a deflection off defender Jordon Thompson and into the Sky Blues net.
After the interval Kwame Thomas had a good chance to extend the lead when he missed his header, but it was the hosts who opened what was to be a goal-fest of a second half. McDonagh latched onto a long ball over the top, before finishing past Addai.
Kyle Finn was the next Sky Blues goalscorer, making it 3-2 when he converted a cross from Bilal Sayoud after 73 minutes. However, Forest equalised almost immediately when Adam Crookes headed home from a corner.
With one minute to go of normal time the Sky Blues youngsters took the lead once again, when Bilal Sayoud’s low effort from outside the box nestled into the net. However, Forest were to have the last word in the contest and took a share of the spoils thanks to a 94th minute penalty by Aaron Smith.
Nicky Eaden’s side are next in action on Monday 11th September, facing Sheffield United at the Alan Higgs Centre (1pm KO).
