PREVIEW: Coventry City v Carlisle United - The Sky Blues face the Cumbrians at the Ricoh Arena

City take on Carlisle in SkyBet League Two...

12 September 2017

Venue: The Ricoh Arena

Competition: SkyBet League Two

Date: Saturday, Tuesday 12th September, 2017.

Kick-Off: 7.45pm

The Sky Blues will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in SkyBet League Two as they welcome Carlisle to the Ricoh Arena.

Jodi Jones’ 25-yard curler made sure Port Vale left the West Midland’s empty handed last time out, despite City being reduced to ten-men late on after Rod McDonald was shown a straight red card, thus being handed with a one match ban from this evening's fixture.

Keith Curle’s side will be hoping his side bounce back from the weekend’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Accrington. Last season Curle led the Cumbrians to a respectable sixth place finish in League Two but crashed out of the plays off to Exeter 6-5 on aggregate in a thriller over two legs. His side currently sit 16th.

The Opponents

The Cumbrians started the summer with the free signings of Bury duo Hallam Hope and Kelvin Etuhu. Formerly of Everton and England U19s, Hope scored four in 21 appearances last campaign on loan from Bury and provides Carlisle with some much-needed fire power.

Likely to partner Hope in attack, Sky Blue fans will remember Shaun Miller who joined the ranks at the Ricoh Arena in 2014 making 12 appearances before heading out on loan to Crawley Town and York City.

Attempting to stop the Sky Blues from finding the net this evening is likely to be defensive duo Gary Liddle and Mark Ellis. Ellis achieved promotion to the Football League last season while on loan at Forest Green Rovers whereas Liddle was relegated with Chesterfield.

Memorable Meeting

Two quickfire strikes from popular Sky Blues duo Leon Clarke and Franck Moussa helped City to a stunning 4-0 victory over Carlisle at Brunton Park in 2014.

Steven Pressley’s side were two-up after just six minutes before goals from Billy Daniels and Clarke again sealed a comfortable victory in front of the travelling Sky Blue Army.

Carlisle did almost find a route back into the game at 2-0, but Joe Murphy’s penalty save told the story of the Cumbrian’s afternoon.
