COMMUNITY: Accelerate into Work project supports local people gain Sports Leadership Qualification

Six learners presented with Sports Leadership Qualification during half-time on matchday...

6 September 2017

CCFC & Sky Blues in the Community welcomed Bradley Wilson, Chris Jones, James Kinyanjui, Khamisi Lightbourne, Simon Swain and Stuart Rhodes to the game against Newport County after they completed their Level 1 Sports Leadership Qualification (SL1) through the Accelerate into Work project.

Funded by the BIG Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund, managed by Coventry & Warwickshire CDA, Accelerate is a building better opportunities project that can build confidence, give training, improve skills and provide valuable work experience – all geared towards helping people to find a job that suits them.

Sky Blues in the Community (SBitC) form part of an Accelerate partnership of 23 local organisations providing co-ordinated employment support to people who are at a disadvantage when looking for work. Throughout the year, Sky Blues in the Community are providing free programmes for those who are unemployed or economically inactive to support them to overcome complex barriers to employment and develop their confidence, all within a sociable and positive environment.

Through the programme, participants will achieve an accredited Level 1 Sports Leadership Qualification covering essential leadership and teamwork skills transferable to working life. The programme is highly practical with participants having the opportunity to demonstrate their skills by delivering their own sports coaching sessions alongside their peers and assisting SBitC coaches across our community projects.

All 6 learners passed with flying colours, planning and delivering high-quality practical sessions as part of their final assessment.  They were presented with their certificates at half-time against Newport County.

Since October 2016, Sky Blues in the Community have helped 19 out-of-work adults to achieve a Level 1 Sports Leadership Qualification (SL1) with many progressing onto employment and volunteering opportunities.

Sky Blues in the Community are running two further Accelerate into Work programmes in 2017 between 5th September – 12th October and 7th November – 14th December.
