Sean McConville's first half strike sinks the Sky Blues...

14 October 2017

The Sky Blues have been beaten 1-0 by Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium thanks to a first half stike from Sean McConville.

The home side nearly took an early lead on five minutes. Sean McConville's long range lob caught Lee Burge off guard in goal for City but thankfully the nummber one was saved bt his crossbar.

Burge was called upon again moments later. Liam Nolan in central midfield for the Stanley charged forward before forcing a strong right handed save from Burge, luckily for the Sky Blues Kayden Jackson was offside when he raced onto the rebound.

The game was end to end. Coventry came close twice moments later. Duckens Nazon scored twice for Haiti during the international brace and his confidence was for all to see when he turned his man and almost found the top corner from 30-yards.

Next it was Jodi Jones' turn. The teenager played a brilliant one-two with Michael Doyle before chipping Stanley 'keeper Aaron Chapman but unfortunately his effort floated agonisingly over the crossbar.

Accrington would take the lead moments later, however. McConville had already came close once before and was this time on the end of some impressive link-up play in the area to slot the games opener past Burge.

The second period took far longer to get going. Nazon tried his luck from range on a number of ocassions forcing a strong save from range, sparking a spell of Sky Blue dominance.

Marc McNulty's introduction added a new attacking option and he played his part is sending Nazon into the area but the striker could not get his shot away.

Next it was McNulty's turn to go for goal. Jones twisted turned his way past Janoi Donancien before crossing onto the head of the former Sheffield United striker but he could not keep his close range header down.

As the game grew older Jones began to ever increasingly get the better of his marker and twice managed to wriggle inside a curl dangerous efforts at goal. The first was saved well by Chapman, the second floated into the 1,494 Sky Blue fans behind the goal.
