On Tuesday 19th September 2017, Sky Blues in the Community and Oak Wood Primary School hosted a Sky Blues player visit, where children and staff enjoyed a question and answer session with three Coventry City First Team Players - Jordan Willis , Duckens Nazon and Maxime Biamou.
The afternoon started with a football coaching session delivered by Sky Blues in the Community with Willis, Nazon and Biamou all taking role in supporting and encouraging the children.
Following the football, both children and staff at the school were given an opportunity for photographs with the players and took part in a question and answer session to learn more about their lives as professional football players and playing for Coventry City Football Club.
Jenny Roberts, Headteacher at Oak Wood School, commented: “Oak Wood Primary had the pleasure of welcoming Jordan, Duckens and Maxime to a coaching session at our school. The pupils were very excited about meeting the players and had been practicing new skills to show them. When the players arrived we were delighted to see how well they interacted with the pupils and took time to greet them all individually.
"The players demonstrated skills, answered questions and posed for photographs. The visit generated such a buzz in school and one pupil even commented that it had been the best day ever! We are very grateful for the support our school receives from Sky Blues in the Community.”
Jordan Willis, Coventry City FC Defender and Sky Blues in the Community Inclusion Ambassador, said: “The visit to Oak Wood Primary School was a real privilege and a humbling experience. The children asked some great questions about our lives as footballers and we were honoured to be asked to visit the school.”
The partnership between Sky Blues in the Community and Oak Wood Primary School will continue, with the school receiving 12 weeks of free football coaching as part of the Sky Blues’ Every Player Counts Project funded and supported by the Wembley National Stadium Trust, the English Football League Trust and CSW Sport.
