Coventry City are launching The EFL Girls U13 Cup for local Secondary Schools!

Each season the EFL, with the support of Football Club Community Organisations, organises two cup competitions (Kids Cup and Girls Cup) for junior footballers from schools across the country, with the finals being played in the build-up to some of the biggest matches of the domestic season.

The EFL Kids and Girls Cups are national tournaments for junior footballers which offer children the once in a lifetime opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium. Combined, the Cups involve over 20,000 children and create one of the country’s largest national football competitions, which culminate in exciting finals at Wembley Stadium in front of thousands of fans before a major national final, as schoolchildren live out their dream.

The EFL Girls Cup competition comprises of a six-a-side competition for U13 girls that culminates in a grand final prior to the Checkatrade Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in April. The road to the Finals starts this November with Sky Blues in the Community organising the local stage of the competition for Secondary Schools across Coventry and Warwickshire to enter.

The winners of the local competition then go on to represent Coventry City Football Club in the Area Finals competing against schools representing other EFL football clubs such as Milton Keynes Dons, Oxford United, Portsmouth, Reading, Peterborough United, Northampton Town and Wycombe Wanderers. If successful, the team will then go on to compete in the Regional and National phases of the competition, where they will face schools representing even more EFL clubs.

The EFL understands that the glory of appearing before a National Final is great for everyone involved. However, at every stage, there are some great prizes for schools to win, such as certificates, pennants, medals and trophies, to allow participants to remember their achievement of taking part in one of the country's largest national football competitions.

Organised by Sky Blues in the Community, the local stage of the competition will take place on Thursday 9th November 2017 for U13 girls (Year 7 and Year 8) from Secondary Schools across Coventry and Warwickshire. The Sky Blues want as many local girls to take part as possible and hope to see many schools, players and parents enjoying the event.

If you know of any teachers or schools who may be interested in registering for the tournament, then please ask them to contact Sky Blues in the Community Education Manager, Louise Dennis via Email: louise.dennis@ccfc.co.uk or Telephone: 024 7678 6313.
