A new Coventry City book by author Steve Phelps looks back at Coventry City 1980/81 season – and Steve will be signing copies of the book ’29 Minutes from Wembley’ at Saturday’s game at the Ricoh Arena.

On 10th February 1981, Coventry City stood 29 minutes from Wembley in the League Cup semi-final second leg against West Ham United. It was the club’s first major semi-final in 97 years, and City’s youngsters only missed out on a trip to the national stadium in the cruellest of circumstances after a fantastic first leg in front of 36,000 at Highfield Road.

29 Minutes from Wembley: The Inside Story of Coventry City’s 1980/81 Season features exclusive interviews with players, management, supporters and opposition stars. Contemporary media reports appear alongside memories and retrospectives to recall a wonderful time in Sky Blue history, the team’s age averaging just 21.

By the summer of 1983, the majority had left the club and here they tell their individual stories of their time at Coventry City.

From 1:40pm to 2:30pm before the game in the Main Atrium and after the game from 5:15pm on Saturday in the Genting Casino, fans can join Steve Phelps for a signing of his new book alongside Andy Blair, Garry Thompson, Brian Roberts, Paul Dyson and Peter Bodak as for the first time, the cast of 1981 are reunited to tell their stories.

’29 Minutes from Wembley’ is out now and available to purchase online and at all good book stores, with a RRP £12.99.
