VOTE: Ben Stevenson chosen as the Sky Blues' Mitre Goal of the Year 2016 for his strike against MK Dons

2 March 2017

Ruben Lameiras and Marvin Sordell were also nominated, but came second to the 19-year old's superb effort...

After a fan poll, Ben Stevenson has claimed the Coventry City Mitre Goal of the Year Award for 2016 with an impressive 44% of the final vote.

The midfielder's first-half wonder strike against MK Dons beat competition from Ruben Lameiras, Marvin Sordell, and another solo effort from himself against Oxford United.

Every club was asked to nominate one goal which can be from any match in an EFL Competition (Sky Bet EFL, EFL Cup or Checkatrade Trophy) and played in the 2016 calendar year, and we tasked YOU with picking the City entrant.

The 72 nominated goals will now be whittled down to ten. Through partnership with the Football on 5 show, from the ten goals nominated, fans will be able to vote for a final shortlist of five goals to go forward to the Awards evening on Sunday 9th April.

The overall winner for Goal of the Year will then be voted for on the night by attendees.
