Coventry City Football Club is saddened to learn of the death of former matchday announcer Jim Twyneham.
Jim passed away following a short battle with Cancer.
For many, Jim was the voice of Highfield Road – with his memorably husky and distinctive tone announcing the goals and teams for nearly 20 years.
Jim's first game as stadium announcer was a 1-1 draw with Everton on August 30, 1986.
A father of two and Sky Blues supporter since the age of five, Jim was presenting a junior team's awards night at Ryton Sports Connexion, next to City's training ground, when he was spotted for his role by George Curtis and John Sillett.
He retired from announcing in March 2006 at the Ricoh Arena, when he was given a Season Ticket for life in recognition of his service but continued tireless charity work in Coventry.
Upon his retirement, Jim said "I guess to many fans I have been the voice of Coventry City on matchdays. I'll always be thankful to the club for helping me fulfil a dream because, as a lifelong Coventry City fan, that's what it has been."
