The Coventry City Academy is a Category Two Academy, providing excellent coaching and development opportunities for young footballers, with a clear pathway to the Sky Blues first team.
With teams from Under 9s to Under 18s, the Academy set up gives young players a professional environment in which to develop as footballers and people during their formative years.
The Under 18s side were crowned Professional Development League South champions, and were the runners-up nationally after being narrowly beaten 1-0 by Sheffield United in the Final.
The Academy has a history of players going on to play at the highest levels of English football - more than 32 players have followed this path into the professional game, including Callum Wilson, James Maddison and Cyrus Christie to name but three.
The 2016/17 season saw 286 Academy graduate appearances in the first team, with 13 different players featured and 4 club debuts made. Seven Academy graduates featured in the Checkatrade Trophy Final win at Wembley, while the last game an Academy product didn’t feature in the match day squad was in January 2010 – a run of over 350 consecutive matches.
Academy graduates form the nucleus of the current Sky Blues squad, with George Thomas, Lee Burge, Ryan Haynes and Ben Stevenson among those taking key roles last season, while defender Jordan Willis captained his hometown club on several occasions last season.
Every day of the week Coventry City Football Club Academy players and coaches will be on pitches in Coventry & Warwickshire and around the country, proudly representing the Sky Blues, and the support of the local and regional business community in this is crucial.
Academy Manager Richard Stevens said: “The Academy provides a pathway and opportunity for talented youngsters from the local area, having seen boys make debuts and build careers who have been at the club from young ages really is the ultimate dream.
"We have had excellent relationships with the local community and businesses over the years who have shared in this development. We welcome all support whatever it may be and continue to create an environment whereby further youngsters can live out ambitions.”
