Kyle Finn continues his purple patch in front of goal as the Under-23s share the points...
Samuel Ricketts took charge of the Under-23 side, as they were held to a draw against Watford in the Development League South.
In miserable conditions it was a youthful Sky Blues who started the quicker. After a good spell of possession City took the lead through Kyle Finn, as the midfielder picked up the ball on the edge of the box before curling wonderfully into the top corner.
The home side responded well and went close to equalising in the nineteenth minute. Alex Jakubiak, picking up a similar position to that of Finn for the Sky Blues’ goal, fired at goal but was denied by a good Corey Addai save.
Midfielder Jordan Shipley nearly doubled the advantage shortly after, again from long range. He picked up the ball 25-yards out and hit it across ‘keeper Andrew Thomas, only to be denied by the woodwork.
However, the Hornets would soon be level from the penalty spot. A mistake from Corey Addai gave the home side an opportunity from 12 yards and Jakubiak stepped up to fire it straight down the middle.
City started the second half on the front foot and very nearly retook the lead through Finn. Devon Kelly-Evans was denied from distance, before Finn nearly added his second of the match on the rebound, but Thomas saved well.
It was tight and cagey affair during the second half, in what was difficult conditions. Jakubiak again seemed to be the main cause of concern for the Sky Blues, latching onto a through ball before Addai saved well one-on-one.
The Hornets nearly snatched victory in the final moments when they won a free kick on the edge of the box. A deflected effort smashed onto the crossbar before a Watford body headed home from close range, only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.
