"A great football man, who has achieved an awful lot in the game." - Coventry City's Russell Slade

13 January 2017

The City boss pays tribute to former England manager Graham Taylor, after the club learnt of his passing yesterday...

Football lost one of its greatest servants this week, with the news that former Watford, Aston Villa and England manager Graham Taylor had sadly passed away at the age of 72.

Taylor made over 300 senior appearances as a player, but is best remembered as someone who broke the mould in management and served as the national team’s manager from 1990-1993.

Russell Slade gave his reaction to the news: "It was a real shock, I'm sure a shock to his family also. A great football man, who has achieved an awful lot in the game.

"It is always sad when someone like that passes away, he was a true Englishman who loved his football and the game. Someone who was crowned England manager once upon a time so it is a sad miss.

"When you lose a football man with such a vast knowledge - the game needs people like Graham Taylor."
