ON THIS DAY: Sunday 9th February 1958 - City striker Cyrille Regis was born

9 February 2017

With over 280 appearances for the Sky Blues, Regis was certainly a crowd favourite during his time at the club...

Cyrille Regis, who led the City forward line between 1984 and 1991, was born in Maripasoula, French Guiana.

After making 281 first-team appearances and scoring 62 goals, Regis was known for his great strength and unselfish awareness that made him a terrific focal point for the Sky Blues. Signed from West Bromwich Albion by Bobby Gould in 1984, it was when John Sillett took over that City supporters saw the best of 'Big Cyrille'.

When released in 1991, he took the opportunity to sign for local rivals Aston Villa to reunite with Ron Atkinson, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City also benefited from his talent before he retired from the game.
