We are delighted to confirm the signing of Josh Barrett on loan until the end of the season from Championship side Reading.

Barrett will begin training with his new team mates from Saturday, as he awaits the Transfer Window to open on the 2nd of January to officially complete the move.

Josh, who is a Republic of Ireland U21 international, is a strong and powerful attacking player, who can also play midfield, has scored eight goals in twelve appearances for the Royals under-23s this season.

The 19 year-old has risen through the ranks at Reading, signing his first professional contract at the age of 17 after impressive displays in the under-18s, where he captained the side to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

Barrett then made his debut for the Royals in the Championship at 17, towards the end of the 2015/16 season against Huddersfield Town.

In 2016-17 he spent the season representing the Royals' Under-23s and scored six goals in 31 appearances as he helped the side reach the Premier League Cup Final against Swansea City.

Upon securing the services of Barrett, Sky Blues Manager, Mark Robins had this to say:

He said: “We are delighted to be able to bring Josh to the club and for him to be a part of what we hope will be a successful season.

“With the right hard work and determination, we are sure that he will enjoy a successful spell with us until the end of the season.”
