REPORT: Rushall Olympic 3-1 Sky Blues

Young City side fall to defeat in the Birmingham Senior Cup...

6 December 2017

The Sky Blues suffered an early exit from the Birmingham Senior Cup last night, when they fell to a 3-1 defeat away to Rushall Olympic in the Second Round.

It wasn’t the best of starts to the game for City, as they found themselves three down after just under a quarter of an hour.

A ball into the box after just three minutes was deflected past Liam O’Brien from a Sky Blue man, as the hosts took the lead through an own goal.

Minutes later, another ball into the box and it was the same outcome again, however this time it was Joe Hull who headed into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Then, on thirteen minutes, Tyler Blake was through on goal and he was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Blake then got up and converted then penalty to make it 3-0.

The best chance of the half for City fell just before the break, when striker Jordan Ponticelli turned in the box and got a shot away, but it was saved by the Rushall ‘keeper.

After the break, Jak Hickman struck a superb volley which had Jono Brown worried, but he did enough to keep it out and protect the three goal lead.

However, Ponticelli did get one back for the Sky Blues on 62 minutes when he got on the end of a Tom Bayliss cross to make it 3-1.

City continued to apply the pressure and create opportunities, with Bilal Sayoud and Kyle Finn both producing efforts which testes the Olympic defence.

Late on, Ponticelli almost got his second of the game when his low shot was well saved by Brown to ensure that Rushall would keep their 3-1 lead in tact come the final whistle.

Sky Blues: O’Brien, Di Kelly-Evans (C), Camwell, Thompson, Ford, Hickman, Maycock, Bayliss, Sayoud, Ponticelli, Finn.
