The Sky Blues Under-18s fell to defeat in the third round of the FA Youth Cup away at Villa Park, as they departed the competition.
An early goal from Morgan Crowther had given City the lead, but goals either side of half time from Colin Odutayo gave Villa the win.
It was the perfect start for the Sky Blues, when with under a minute on the clock, Morgan Crowther put City in the lead.
Jack Burroughs put the ball across the box and it was hit low and hard and Crowther was on hand to slot it past Kieran Boucher and make it 1-0.
However, the lead didn’t last long and Aston Villa drew level on nine minutes when Lewis Brunt played through Colin Odutayo and he cut inside and curled it past Tom Bilson.
The Sky Blues looked to respond almost immediately and it was Jonathan Ngandu who stood over a free-kick from outside the area, but he hit the side netting.
The hosts began to work their way into the game and after a shot outside the box from Liam Doyle for the Sky Blues went wide, a fine save from Tom Bilson and a clearance from Josh Endall prevented Villa from taking the lead.
Bilson was called into action from a Jack Birch header, moments before Endall put his body on the line, to deny Jacob Ramsey getting a shot away.
Jack Burroughs had the final effort of the half as he had a shot from range which was saved well by Kieran Boucher in the Villa goal.
After the half-time interval, there was work to do for City and it was Endall who managed to clear an Odutayo effort off the line, after he cut inside from the left.
However, after a battle at the start of the second half, it was eventually Villa who were able to find the back of the net and it was Odutayo again.
A corner was whipped in, after Bilson had made a superb stop to deny Dimitri Sea, and the corner was cleared only as far as Odutayo, who fired home from range.
Bilson was called into action minutes later and he pulled off another terrific save to deny Sea again, as he was quick off his line to prevent the number nine.
City pressed for the equaliser late on. A chance from Jack Burroughs and a counter attack, after a superb run from Lewis White, he teed up Crowther and his cross was met by Burroughs head again, but Boucher saved.
Then, late on the hosts almost made it 3-1, but Bilson pulled off another superb stop to prevent Odutayo, which would prove to be the last chance of the game.
