PREVIEW: Yeovil Town v Coventry City - Sky Blues travel to Huish Park to face the Glovers

25 August 2017

Venue: Huish Park

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Date: Saturday, August 26th, 2017.

Kick-off: 3pm

The Sky Blues will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat at home to Newport County when they head to Huish Park to take on Yeovil Town.

Reece Cole’s speculative effort was the games’ only goal at the Ricoh Arena last week as Coventry dropped their first points of the Sky Bet League Two season.

Next up for City is the long trip south west to Somerset to face the Glovers, who also will be hoping for an improvement this time out after throwing away a 3-1 lead against rivals Forest Green Rovers to lose 4-3 in the dying embers a week ago.

Remarkably, there has been 22 goals in Yeovil’s first three league games with ten of those coming in their opening day 8-2 defeat away to Luton Town that saw them initially take the lead but go into the break 5-1 down.

Despite some troubles defensively, the Glovers have demonstrated enough fire power in attack to hurt teams. Three goals in ten minutes from Francois Zoko and Southampton loanee Olufela Olomola helped them on their way to a 3-2 victory over Wycombe at Huish Park a fortnight ago and they will be looking to keep their 100% home record intact for as long as possible.

The Opponents

Former Sky Blues loan star James Bailey is one who fans will remember fondly. Now Yeovil’s captain, Bailey enjoyed two loan spells in Coventry scoring twice, notably a 94th minute winner against Oldham in a classic under the floodlights at the Ricoh Arena.

Olomola is one to keep an eye out for at Huish Park. The teenager who is on-loan in Somerset until January, has found the net three times in his first three first team games and gives Yeovil a set of youthful legs to accompany the experienced Zoko, who has made over 200 Football League appearances.

At the helm for the Glovers is Darren Way who has been with the club for the best part of 17 years. The manager initially joined the Somerset club during their 2000-2001 Conference campaign and despite being tempted away by Swansea City, came back on loan after the club made it into the Football League.

Way has overseen 90 games as Yeovil manager winning 27.

Memorable Meetings

Over the Sky Blues’ last five meetings with Yeovil, the game has ended as a tie three times with Yeovil winning on penalties in the Checkatrade Trophy on one of those occasions.

Goals from Simeon Jackson and Reda Johnson gave Coventry the victory when the sides met in 2014, either side of a Sam Foley strike for Yeovil.

Johnson gave City the lead after just seven minutes in what was the club’s second game back at the Ricoh Arena. Foley’s goal early on in the second half looked as if it was enough to share the points but with twenty minutes to go Jackson popped up to seal the win for the Sky Blues.
