INTERVIEW: Midfielder Tony Andreu on his first goal for the Sky Blues in the Checkatrade Trophy

30 August 2017

A last gasp Joe Riley free kick meant that the Sky Blues were defeated 3-2 by Shrewsbury Town at the Ricoh Arena...

A spot kick from Marc McNulty and Tony Andreu’s first for the club brought the Sky Blues back into the game during an impressive second half but the free kick snatched the Shrews all three points at the death.

“I think the first half was not good enough for us,” said Andreu.

“We should have done better. I include myself in that. I think we were a little out of place and it was not great to concede those two goals but we came back well in the second half.

“The fact that we scored early and tried to push from there helped. We were the better team second half.

“It is just unfortunate that we conceded the third. It was a great free kick.”

Andreu made his first start for the Sky Blues at the weekend against Yeovil and found the net for the first time just four days later picking out the top corner from 25 yards.

“I always want to score and I always want to help out my teammates.

“Unfortunately, today the goal did not mean anything because we lost which is a shame, but hopefully on Saturday it will be a win and three league points.

He added: “We showed lots of good things that second half and we have to carry that on to Saturday.”
