GALLERY: Coventry City 2-3 Shrewsbury - All the action from last night's Checkatrade opener

30 August 2017

The Sky Blues opened their Checkatrade Trophy defence with a late defeat against Shrewsbury Town at the Ricoh...

Stefan Payne and Arthur Gnahoua's quickfire double put the visitors in control at the half-time interval, but a spirited Sky Blues comeback brought the game to life in the second period.

Tony Andreu scored his first goal for City, curling an effort superbly into the top corner after a Jodi Jones led breakway, before Marc McNulty stepped up to convert a penalty he had initially won.

Shrewsbury were reduced to ten men twenty minutes from time with James Bolton shown his marching orders, but despite the Sky Blues' domination Joe Riley hit a 94th minute winner with his 25-yard free-kick finding the top corner.

The Sky Blues are next in action this Saturday against Chesterfield as they return to League Two fixtures.
