City's Under-23s side suffer away woes in Suffolk against the Tractor Boys...
Nicky Eaden’s Under-23s side suffered a heavy defeat in their final away game of the season, losing out to Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
With barely three minutes on the clock the Sky Blues found themselves behind. Careless in possession, City gave the ball away in midfield and were duly punished, as a through ball found Ben Morris who slotted calmly into the bottom corner.
City responded well, fashioning a few chances of their own as they looked for an immediate response. Kyle Spence tricked his way into the Ipswich box before laying it off to Chris Camwell, but the full back’s curling shot fell narrowly wide.
Despite a promising response, the Ipswich number nine got on the scoresheet for the second time. Morris found space inside the six-yard box to tap in after good wing play from Albert Wilton on the right.
Things soon went from bad to worse for Eaden’s side, conceding a third just before the thirty minute mark. Ben Folami slipped it through to Adam McDonnell, who took one touch before poking it past the oncoming Addai.
Kyle Finn replaced Kyle Spence at half-time for the Sky Blues, but it wasn’t to stop the Tractor Boys further extending the lead. A poor ball in midfield gave Ipswich an opportunity to break, and whilst Addai did well initially, Flynn Downes pounced on the rebound to add a fourth.
Four soon became five as Downes scored his second in the space of ten minutes. The midfielder exchanged passes with Jack Lancaster before finishing from close range, with his effort squirming underneath the City ‘keeper.
A desperately disappointing performance was capped off as Ipswich added their sixth of the contest, as Ben Folami scored the pick of the goals cutting in from the left and firing it into the far corner.
