Defender Jamie Sterry on his loan move from Newcastle United and how he has settled in...

A week since his deadline day move, Jamie Sterry is settling into life with the Sky Blues ahead of this weekend’s clash against Millwall.

The defender joined on a half-season loan deal from Newcastle United and started his first game in the 2-0 defeat against Fleetwood on Saturday.

Sterry talks about how a loan move away from his parent club has the potential to progress him as a player: “It’s been a good week so far, we’ve all been training really hard trying to work on areas we can improve on,” Sterry said.

“It’s a big change from Newcastle but I felt a loan move was needed at this point in my career. It’s a great set-up here and the players have been really welcoming so it was the correct decision for me to come here.

“The team try to play in the correct way and that is in line with how I want to progress as a footballer – the next step is to win some games.”

The 20-year-old was thrown straight in to the first-team line-up, making his debut at the earliest opportunity up in the Northeast at the weekend.

Despite a disappointing result, the Tynside-born defender was happy to be playing senior football. He added: “It was great to be involved so early and that is why I came here to get some game time and hopefully help the team win some matches as well.

“We weren't happy with the end result but there was a lot to take out of the game and a lot of learning to be done for future fixtures. The wingback role is fairly new to me but it is something I am sure I will pick up on quickly and it should suit me as an attacking fullback.”
