Devon Kelly-Evans on his hat-trick to help the Sky Blues run out convincing winners in Yorkshire...
Kelly-Evans is hoping his match winning performance for the Under-23s against Barnsley at Oakwell will help his chances of a first-team call up.
The forward scored a hat-trick, including a fantastic 25 yard strike that found the net off the post, as the Sky Blues cruised to a resounding 4-1 victory in Yorkshire.
Having seen his brother, Dion, feature often for the first-team so far this season, Devon admits the ultimate aim is senior football. He said: “I’m happy I was able to help my teammates get a very good win, we are starting to build a bit of momentum which will only help.
“Of course, any player within this squad wants a chance at first-team level, you play the game to try and test yourself at the highest level and the next step is to try and progress here at Coventry City.
“I’ve been trying to add more goals to my game and it is nice to see the hard work I am putting in is paying off.”
City’s Under-23s have now won three games on the bounce, all by fairly convincing margins and scoring 11 goals in the process - a run that Kelly-Evans is keen to continue.
“It was important after the Charlton game that we responded and we’ve been fantastic since that day. We’re not only winning games but looking quite comfortable and scoring goals.
“We’ve worked hard to put things right and when you feel embarrassed on a football pitch like we did a few weeks ago, you try to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
He added: “I’m just delighted I can help the team with a hat-trick and push us towards another victory. The lads were fantastic today so hopefully that’ll continue.”
