“We have a good squad here & should players be unavailable, we have replacements ready to come into the team." - Coventry City's Mark Venus

Mark Venus on the upcoming fixture list and tomorrow's opponents Chesterfield...

Mark Venus believes his side can cope with the hectic fixture list as they prepare to face Chesterfield at the Ricoh tomorrow night.

The game against the Spireites starts a four game run in the space of 12 days for the Sky Blues, with matches in the Checkatrade Trophy and FA Cup included.

Venus said: “I am happy with the current numbers in the squad. Numerically I have a few decisions to make, but they can handle the fixture list.

“I always like to consider every player in the squad. I’ve tended to keep the same base of players throughout the 18, but I am wary we could overuse certain players.

“We have a good squad here and should certain players be unavailable, we have replacements ready and waiting to come into the team and prove they should be starting each week.”

City enter the tie as the in-form team, with three wins and a draw from their last five League One encounters. But Venus isn't approaching the game as 'favourites', he added: “Of course it’s a different dynamic and a different pressure. We go into the game as the team higher up the league, but I know it’s a tough and dangerous game.

“I don’t feel we’re at a point where we can go into any game a bit complacent and over confident. We have approach it with the mind set of working as hard as always to come away with a positive result.”

“It’s definitely an opportunity, it’s a home game against a team lower than us in the league. There are plenty of opportunities in this league, you just have to show the right attitude and perform on the pitch.”
