The talent of teenager Jodi Jones shines through against the Cobblers in Checkatrade Trophy showdown...
It’s taken a few months of settling in since 18-year old Jodi Jones’ move from Dagenham and Redbridge in January, but the forward has finally opened his scoring account for the Sky Blues.
Having made the switch to the West Midlands permanent in the summer, Jones has featured 11 times this term and managed to find the magic touch against Northampton last night.
Jones said: “Happy to get the win and obviously pleased to get my first goal today, second win on the bounce.
“Obviously we have found it hard to get wins recently but a solid win at the weekend and the same today. We’ve managed to find a bit of form right now, taking our chances more.
“Performances have been good lately, but now we’re scoring goals. If we did have a game on Saturday, we’d only look at that as a positive but it’s a ten day wait until Charlton away.”
Jones, who will be enjoying his 19th birthday later this month, signed a four year deal with the Sky Blues in the summer.
The ex-London youngster is hoping he can replicate last night’s form across the course of the season and says that his confidence at his new club is on the rise.
“Just because we’ve been losing recently doesn’t mean the lads haven’t been working hard on the training pitch and in games so a break will be nice,” Jones added.
“Things haven’t gone our way recently and we’re all sad that the Gaffer has gone, but we all keep our heads up and keep going. The Gaffer had his family as well to think about so we understand his decision.
“I didn’t expect Mark Venus to take over but he has done well so far and everybody likes his style of play. We are doing decent things in training, the tactics and formation is working, and importantly we’re winning games.
“Playing out on the wing, teams have clocked on to that tactic and put two men on me so I have to keep cutting inside. If I get in that pocket with some space around me I can really hurt teams. My confidence has always been high but now I’ve got my first goal it will only grow and hopefully I can go on to score more.”
