Defender Jordan Turnbull on City's impressive away performance against the Valiants...
Jordan Turnbull has called on his teammates to build on yesterday’s impressive 2-0 victory against high-flying Port Vale, with a Tuesday night fixture just around the corner.
The Sky Blues ended Vale’s perfect home record this season and in the process picked up their first three points of the 2016/17 league campaign.
Mark Venus was overseeing the team for the first time, but Turnbull admits it is only start of what the side want to achieve this season. He said: “It’s a relief to the whole squad and get’s that monkey off of our back.
“All the squad are delighted with not only the result but the performance out there as we controlled most of the game and finished the chances when we created them.
“It’s a difficult place to come, you just have to look at their start to the season and I felt we handled that fantastically. We showed what we are capable of but it is now about building on that and not sitting back and relaxing.”
Coupled with the first three points of the season, the Sky Blues also kept their fourth clean sheet of the season and climbed off the bottom of the league standings.
“I enjoy games like that. We are both sides that look to get the ball down and play football the right way, but in the end it got a little more physical which is enjoyable to play in as well," Turnbull added.
“I thought me and Willis looked comfortable for the majority of the game, but that was helped by everyone. Sterry and Page defended their wings very well and the midfield pressed superbly.”
“Defensive shape comes from the whole team, to the forwards pressing their back line to the rest of the side winning their individual battles. I thought that aspect of our game was very good today.”
