"I think everyone gained confidence from the Rochdale victory because it was a different type of performance."- Coventry City's Mark Venus

Mark Venus on the performance at Rochdale and this weekend's opponents Walsall...

Mark Venus believes the confidence in the squad is growing after back-to-back home victories against Oxford United and Rochdale.

The Sky Blues remain unbeaten on home turf this season, and have won three times of four games in League One competition since Venus took the reigns.

The 49-year-old is hoping his side can build on a run of positive performances. He said: “I hope the confidence is growing, I think it should based on a five game period.

“They’ve proven that they can win a couple of games in a short time, so they have to start believing in themselves that they can continue this run and climb the table.

“I think the whole squad gained confidence from the Rochdale victory because it was a different type of performance where we have shown grit and determination to keep them out in a difficult game.”

City face a Walsall side in similar form, winning four of their last five games in all competitions, including their recent 2-0 win against Swindon Town. Star man, Erhun Oztumer has notched seven goals from midfield this season and the Turkish no.10 will be one to watch tomorrow.

“They are a good footballing team who always seem to produce or maintain a good side year on year. You have to admire them as a club really.

“They play football the right way, but had a lot of players leave during the summer and that could have possibly effected them, but they’re starting to improve each game.”

He added: “They have been on a good run recently and have a number 10 on a real purple patch, so we have to be wary and approach the game in the correct manner.”
