Mark Venus reflect's on City's 3-1 win against Northampton Town in the Checkatrade Trophy...

Mark Venus was delighted with the individual quality on display during the Sky Blues’ 3-1 victory against Northampton Town.

City made it two wins on the bounce after Saturday’s victory at Port Vale, thanks to goals from forward Daniel Agyei, substitute Ruben Lameiras and a first senior strike from 18-year old Jodi Jones.

Venus said: “Any win at this moment of time is good for us, but I thought we were fantastic today. I was pleased that we scored not only three goals, but three very well taken goals. We conceded a poor goal so quickly after going in front, but the lads reacted well and took their chances.

“I really enjoyed the performances of certain players tonight, and the goals from Jodi, Ruben and Dan were all of the highest quality. It’s good to see that individuality on a football pitch and they all shown what ability they have.”

The victory makes it two wins in the space of four days since Venus was appointed as City’s caretaker Manager. The Sky Blues squad now have a ten day gap between tonight and their next competitive game, as international call-ups have interfered with League One's original fixture schedule.

“Each win brings more confidence and this team needed to start winning football matches sooner rather than later," Venus added.

“It is a young squad, but those younger players showed their quality tonight. At their age they can only learn and improve further, so If they can perform like they did tonight it’s only a positive moving forward.

“It’s very pleasing to watch when your team is playing well. I thought Ruben was very good when he came on, but the team as a whole are working really hard for each other and you can see that on the pitch.”
