"I am really pleased with the way we stood up to them and we had some great individual displays today." - Coventry City's Mark Venus

Mark Venus reflect's on a confident home performance from the Sky Blues, after victory against in-form Rochdale...

Mark Venus admitted he was delighted with a hard-fought victory against Rochdale, despite not dominating as much of the play.

Daniel Agyei had put the Sky Blues ahead in the first half, before Andre Wright came off the bench to confirm the victory late on at the Ricoh Arena.

Venus affirmed it was a positive sign that his players matched the physicality shown by the visitors. “I’ll be the first to admit we won’t win every week if we play like that, but we shown a different side to our game today which was very positive.

“We played against a very good team today, one with a purpose and who are very positive. But I am really pleased with the way we stood up to them and we had some great individual displays.

“I think the boys are believing in themselves as a team and that is starting to show with the results we are getting.”

Venus was particularly happy with his defensive unit, as the Sky Blues earned their first clean sheet since the victory at Port Vale.

“I think the defence probably had a little too much to do, but because of that they proved they can deal with a different style of play. That is down to the good play of Rochdale.

“We couldn’t control the game like we usually do, so that put a little more pressure on the defensive side of our game, but we coped fantastically.”

He added: “I thought Jordan Willis was outstanding. It is probably his best game I’ve seen him play since I’ve been at the club so that is really encouraging. It’s about moving forward now and constantly bettering ourselves.”
