The Sky Blues travel to Wycombe in the final group game of the EFL’s Trophy competition this evening…
Safe in the knowledge that the Sky Blues have already earned a place in the second phase of the Checkatrade Trophy after comfortable wins against West Ham and Northampton, the City interim boss can afford to tinker with his starting XI tonight.
Both Callum Maycock and Jack McBean made their debuts from the bench in the FA Cup at the weekend and could be in contention to play, while some of City’s in-form U23s squad will be hoping they’ve also caught the eye.
Both Chris McCann and Vladimir Gadzhev remain sidelined with injuries.
Speaking after the Morecambe game on Sunday, Venus said: “We can have a bit of respite. We put a lot of energy into the second half against Morecambe and it’s difficult to keep taking players to the well.
“We’re playing the top of the league on Saturday so we’ve got to be wary of that.
“Jack did all right but he’s a striker and he needs service, I think he can do better but he more than justified his place. Callum got involved because I thought we were a bit loose in midfield and I just wanted to tighten it up.”
