Jamie Sterry nets his first career goal, but City are forced to settle for a replay in the FA Cup first round...
The Sky Blues fullback came to the rescue against League Two outfit Morecambe on Sunday, as he salvaged a 1-1 draw to force a reverse fixture back at the Ricoh.
City went behind to a Dean Winnard opener, before Sterry curled an effort in off the far post to give the away side a lifeline.
The 20-year old has made 13 appearances for the club this term, and was given permission late on by his parent club Newcastle to represent the Sky Blues in FA Cup competition.
Sterry said: “I played the ball to Andre, I got it back and tucked it in to the bottom corner but I don’t think we created enough chances in general.
“We needed to do more second half and we did that. We’ve hit the bar, Jack goes close with a header but ultimately we weren’t good enough. We’re playing the replay next Tuesday so we need to get a result.”
The Magpies loanee was full of praise for teammates Lee Burge and Jack McBean, with the latter making his senior debut as a second half substitute.
Sterry added: “Lee Burge was brilliant, last game as well, man of the match performances. We’re all working hard but I have to say that Burge has been quality since he has come in to the side.
“Jack was brilliant when he came on, gave us a good outlet. I’ve been pretty close with Jack in my time here, he’s a good guy and he is working so hard to improve.”
