NEWS: Coventry City striker Adam Armstrong wins the Match of the Day magazine Superstar of the Future award

Coventry City striker Adam Armstrong has clinched the Match of the Day magazine Superstar of the Future award.

Over 20,000 fans cast their vote to decide which players would be named Superstar of the Future, Championship Player of the Year, League One Player of the Year and League Two Player of the Year – with League One Coventry striker Adam Armstrong, being named the player to watch out for, scooping the Superstar of the Future Award.

Armstrong, who has just completed a season long loan from Newcastle, scoring 20 goals, received 41% of the votes. On being presented with the award, the 19 year old thanked fans saying: “Thanks to everyone who voted. It’s the first time I’ve been nominated for a MOTD award – hopefully I can do as well next year!” 

“I’ll be going back to Newcastle for pre-season and see how that goes. I’m also going away with England U19s in July for the Euros, that’ll be good – hopefully we can win it again!"

The Coventry striker beat off tough a lot of tough competition as he clinched his 20th goal of the campaign in the final game of the season at Oldham Athletic to round off a fantastic spell with the Sky Blues.
