Coventry City have offered six Academy scholars professional contracts to continue their footballing development with the Sky Blues.

Goalkeeper Corey Addai, defenders Darragh Leahy and Jacob Whitmore, midfielders Jordan Shipley and Callum Maycock and striker Bassala Sambou have all been offered contracts after an impressive two years at the Academy.

All five have impressed during the past two seasons, notably in their impressive FA Youth Cup campaign this year, and have already established themselves at Under-21s level.

It is another great accolade for the Coventry City Academy who were recently named in the top five Academies in the Football League over the last six years.

Academy Manager Richard Stevens has praised the application and hard work of the group to earn their professional contracts, and is delighted for everyone at the Academy.

Stevens said: "It's a great moment for us as an Academy to see five scholars offered professional contracts with the football club.

"It shows the huge amount of confidence the first-team management staff have in the work we do at the Academy and the players we're currently producing.

"This year, we've been able to get six out of seven across the line which is a fantastic success rate and I'd like to congratulate the group for their hard work coming off.

"Of course, it doesn't stop there. They need to continue their hard work in the Under-21s group next season and keep pushing towards that first-team berth. I've got full confidence that these players will impact Coventry City's first-team in the coming years with the right amount of application and work ethic.

"Sadly, midfielder Jay Albini will leave us after his scholarship and we'll make sure we support him as he looks for a new club to continue his footballing journey elsewhere."
